The 2018 “Building Bridges: Eastern Iowa Assistive Technology Conference” will provide an opportunity to see first-hand the latest in assistive technologies (AT), practices, and services for school-age students with disabilities. This AT conference will serve as a unique opportunity for professionals, parents, administrators and service providers to exchange and gather information on the current status and assistive technology tools available for consideration.

As paradigms have shifted in the field of Augmentative and Alternative Communication for learners with the most complex communication needs self-contained classrooms that focus in these learners have needed to shift in design as well. In this session we will look at designing classrooms, schedules and lesson plans that focus on AAC immersion while considering creating age-respectful environments. Time will be spend considering how to teach AAC within standards based activities as well as during transition times, activities of daily living and life skills lessons.
