Many children and young adults with complex communication needs struggle with using positive behavior across their day, in all environments. Often times this is because of the presence of both anxiety and apraxia. This session will examine how augmentative and alternative communication can be used to support positive behavior, address anxiety and increase an internal locus of control in children and young adults who may have developmental, intellectual and emotional challenges. Some examples of individuals who might have this profile include those with Angelman Syndrome, Rett Syndrome or similar neurodevelopmental disabilities.
